Medicaid and Trials

Well we have been waiting to hear back from Medicaid for three weeks now. When last night I had some respiratory problems and needed to go to the doctor. Ben called the Medicaid office and told them that I needed to go to the doctor and if we were accepted for Medicaid. They told us since Ben is NOT working 20 or more hours a week being a FULL TIME STUDENT, that we were declined. We have a three month old son, that with children you never know what could go wrong, that cannot get onto insurance. Ben is not working right now because he is in an accelerated program in Denver for 11 months and cannot work. I being a stay-at-home mom cannot work either. We are not making ANY money. We have basically nothing. We can barely afford food and Ben's tuition is 32,000 dollars this year.

I am just sick of those people who get the help when they are perfectly capable of going out and getting a job. They just are too lazy and use the system. We would only need the help for one year and after that we are going to be perfectly fine and we will be putting a lot of taxes into that program. It is so frustrating to us because we cannot afford health insurance for Braeden and he needs to go to his check-ups and get shots.

When I was growing up my family had to have government help. My dad lost his job with 9 people at home. We had nothing, but each other. That was all that kept us going. I had to help raise my little sisters since I was 6 years old. I had to grow up sooner that anyone should. My mom and dad were always gone looking for jobs and I had to work at a fast food place and sometimes give my paychecks for food and to pay bills, and help so my little sisters had a Christmas. We barely survived...if it weren't for the help of Medicaid and paying our tithing we wouldn't have made it. My dad broke his back when I was a few months old and so he couldn't go out and find a normals job. He tried working construction jobs, but it only made his back worse. This is when Medicaid is needed. For times like my family and my parents. Not for those people who can work, but choose not to. I don't know how many of you have had similar experiences, but it is hard. There are so many more things that my family had to go through growing up that NO ONE should ever have to go through. My family back in Utah is doing much better now thanks so Heavenly Father and my dad's art work career. You will start to see it throughout the country very soon. It is at many places like Costco, and Deseret Book. Only to mention a few. I will get pictures of some of his artwork very soon.

Sorry for my venting session, but I think that some of our experience should be heard.

Oh gosh, I am sorry. Did Braeden have medicaid when he was born? because he should have it for a year after that. That's what we had. That's so hard. None of us are on insurance either, and it sucks. We don't qualify because we make "too much", which really just goes to the insane amount of bills we have. The system is so screwed up. The people that really need the help aren't getting it. We have friends that are given everything by their parents, so they barely work at all, which of course qualifies them for every type of government help. They don't need it. They have every nice thing you could imagine. It's so unfair. While the rest of us work our butts off and have nothing!! I hear ya! Have you tried CHIP? It's insurance. If you have absolutely 0 income, you should definitely qualify for food stamps. it's SOOOOO messsed up you don't qualify for medicaid. I'm sorry.

Hey sweetie! I am sorry that you are having difficulties with medicaid! The only thing I can think of to bring in some money would be working from home try and find a job that you can do from the computer..

Love ya MUAH!

I completely understand. We're in a very similar situation here in NV. We supposedly didn't qualify for medicaid or food stamps because we had "too much" money in savings, according to our bank statements. But they won't take our word that we didn't have that much in savings because we'd just moved and paid $40,000+ for Seth's med school. Our case worker was very rude, and made me cry. Seth's going to school full-time and I'm at home. I've tried to even find stay-at-home jobs and it's very hard to find a legit one.

Sorry for venting, too. You can appeal it with 90 days, I think, if you don't agree with their decision. It's worth a shot!

See if your state has the WIC program (Women, Infant, and Children). It's a govt. program that provides some food for nursing mothers and infants, or if your not nursing, it provides formula and rice cereal. We're on that, even though we didn't qualify for Medicaid.

I want to come give you a big hug. I was thinking what Alecia was thinking about if you had medicaid before, then Braeden will be covered until his first birthday. That's part of the maternity medicaid agreement. And yeah, look into WIC. It's a great help. I wish I knew people in the Denver area that could help you right no.w

Hey Steph!

Its Alisha Rickenbach and I came across your blog and I am so sorry to hear what you and your little family is going through! Medicaid is a really unfair program. Like you said those who don't need it are able to qualify, but those who actually could use the help don't qualify. The same thing has recently happened to me. My husband lost his job and my baby has lots of medical problems so we applied. Unfortunately we weren't able to get any help either. I really hope that things work out for you guys tho!!!! Also I would love to add you to my blog. Send me an email so that I can envite you to my blog! alisha_starks@msn.com

Hey steph, I was reading in my 'what to expect the first year'and there's a number you can call for health insurance for kids from birth to 19. It's not really for your whole family, but it will probably help with Braeden. Might as well give it a shot! 877-KIDS-NOW good luck!
