Mother's Day

Ben surprised me at 6:30 am with my Mother's Day gifts. After a long night with a sick baby, I walked downstairs to see a lot of pictures. Ben had bought be a 40 oz. bag of Reese's Miniatures and printed all the pictures that he had on his camera from since we met. I have been meaning to do it for a while now, but have not had the time. It was a GREAT surprise. Also as many of you have seen on FACEBOOK, Ben made a video of us dancing in the Beijing Olympics. It was so funny. Then there was an odd looking plant on the table in the living room.

I read a poem that said in Ben's words,

"The fun of a flowerpot,
Isn't what you think, no it's not
The bloom of the petals, nor the smell of the rose
It's helping the beauty's beginnings of growth
It's watering, feeding, and taking good care
To help it grow tall, as long as you're there."

HAPPY FIRST MOTHER'S DAY!!!

P.S. Sometimes children are just like the flower-pot-plants that DAD aka Ben buys you...quite strangely, and at complete and utterly unpredictable random, the flower plants start growing tomatoes. A little unexpected, perhaps, and though you would probably never have preferred it personally, in the end somebody ALWAYS does. And of course when eventually people gape and admire the incredible tomatoes (or children) you've grown, you'll look on with wonder and say,"Well, I've no idea where this tomato came from, but I sure as heck am proud." Love, Benji

What a GREAT poem huh? Well I HATE HATE HATE tomatoes, and he knows that. That is what the point is. You can't pick your children, but someday you will be proud that is not what you wanted or expected. It was really silly, and Ben likes to give gifts to me that he would like to use. Such as for my birthday two years ago...a computer game that he liked. That is all I have to say about that! It is so funny.

And I have a question for all of you moms or doctors/nurses or anyone who would know. What do you give children under 2 for a cold? There is nothing. Do you just give them a smaller dose of children medicine or stick with the Tylenol and Ibuprofen? I think it is ridiculous that there is nothing for them. It is really sad that they have to suffer.

I hope all of you mom's have a GREAT day! We appreciate all you do!

It really sucks, but there isn't much you can do with him that young. It depends on how much he weighs. Jax weighs as much as a 2 or 3 year old , so we give him a low dose of children's tylenol cough medicine. You could talk to your doctor. I don't think a low dose of something like that could hurt a kid. I would just talk to your Doc first. Oh, and HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!

do you have a humidifier? I know if you use that and put some baby vicks vapor rub on their chest that really helps them breathe better. Also, saline drops for their nose is fabulous! good luck! Happy Mothers Day!

They pulled all of the cold medicine for infants about a year ago. I remember asking my doctor about it and he said that the medicine doesn't take the cold away it just lessens the symptoms and in the case of little babies the symptoms are what help them fight off the sickness. Humidifiers are great though and I use saline drops. Other than that, you pretty much just have to stick to the tylenol. Sorry, I hope he gets feeling better soon.

Sounds like you had a great M-day...I'm glad, you deserve it!

Yeah, you really can't give babies anything...just time to kick it.

It's so sad to watch your little one be sick. My doctor told me to use children's benadryl. It helps with the runny nose/eyes. Yes, cut down the dose. Adjust it for his hieght and weight. I hope he feels better soon.
