Pre-Term Labor

Last night around 5:30 I started to have some contractions. I decided to write them down and it was a good thing that I did. I had contractions starting every 6 minutes and then they went down to every four minutes and this went on for about an hour and a half. I called my mom and asked her what I should do, and she said lay on my right side for a while. I did and the contractions kept getting worse. I started to pack my hospital bag and I was talking to my friend Hanna about what to do. She told me that I should go in. Ben of course was so worried and he came home from work and we decided to go in to Labor and Delivery. We called my doctor and he told us to go in and get checked out. I was using the bathroom every five minutes and there was no color, so I figured that was my water breaking.

When we got to the hospital after they admitted me, I got my gown on and layed in the hospital bed to wait for the nurse. Ben was freaking out the whole time, but trying for me not to see it. The nurse came in and asked me some questions. She hooked me up to the monitors so we could hear the babies heartbeat and to measure contractions. I was having contractions every two minutes now and they were worried. I am at 34 weeks so the baby would have been fine if he was born last night. He would just have to be on some steroids for lung development. After hooking me up to the monitors, she checked my cervix which was dialated to a 1 and did some lab tests to see if my water had broken. After those tests came back she checked to see if I had a UTI or a bladder infection. That can trigger contractions. After those came back negative, my doctor told the nurse to give me some medicine that should stop the contractions if it is false labor. So she gave me a shot of that and after the fifteen minutes, the contractions kept getting worse. So she came and gave me another dose. Again, they kept getting stronger. After the next fifteen mintes she came to give me the last dose of medicine that she could she realized that she couldn't give it to me because my heart rate was at 132 and I had to be below 120 to get the last shot. So she checked my cervix again and I was almost at a two and I was 50% effaced. That was not enough to call my labor active labor so I couldn't get anything to progress labor.

At 11:30 they decided that I am in Pre-Term labor and very few people have this. I have having regular enough contractions that I could have the baby, but it is not changing my cervix enough to have the baby. So the gave me a shot of Morphine and Phenergine for pain so that I could sleep last night. She gave me the shot in my right hip and it instantly went dead. It was the weirdest feeling. They released me and sent me home with a sheet that told me what I can and cannot do because they dont want me to go into active labor too early. So on the way out to the car Ben had to help me because I could not feel my whole right side. I started to get a little loopy and Ben was hungry so we went to Wendy's. I was starving until we got to the drive up and the Morphine started to kick in big time. I didn't like that way it made me feel. It was crazy and I asked myself why people do drugs like that. It doesnt feel good. I hate not being in control of how I feel. It was not good.

So we got home and I immediately went to bed. I was out in 5 seconds. I needed to sleep but my hip hurt so badly. I think I only woke up three times, but today I feeli like I have been run over by a semi. I am supposed to take it easy and hopefuly within the next few weeks Breaden will be born. I just have to wait it out and get through my contractions until my next doctor's appointment September 29th. There is nothing that they can do until I start having really intense contractions, my water breaks or I start bleeding. So I get to play the it and wait game, but it is better safe than sorry. I am so glad that we went in to see the nurse. It is good that we know what is going on. Braeden is fine. He has great oxygen and his heart rate it fine. I guess we will see what happens the next few days and prolong labor a little bit with a lot of suffering. I dont feel good at all and my right hip is still numb. I cannot walk and things should be interesting. I hope my house doesnt fall apart and that I can actually get up to eat.
